I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts that we’re having a very DC Halloween over here. I showed off the accessories for my son’s Batman Beyond costume, and my daughter’s Raven of Teen Titans costume. Today, I’ll finish off Halloween sewing with my two remaining Halloween costume.
Let’s start with Elle’s jinx of Teen Titans inspired costume. In making Halloween costumes I was really going for pieces the kiddos could wear again. Not just for Halloween. And, with the exception of capes and accessories, I think we accomplished that.
She’s such a ham bone. I desperately searched my local stores for black and purple striped fabric suitable for leggings. I could find black and every other color expect purple. I’m still mildly crushed about it. The leggings pattern is the Clara by Jalie. It is so FAST to make. I used the elastic waist option instead of the wide waistband option. Which sped things up a tiny bit. There’s no front seam for added comfort, and a gusset for great fit. I did add a smidgen of length to them. Elle falls in the same measurements as River does, and while Elle doesn’t need the added length like River, I opted to add length to her leggings as well. Their wardrobe is combined, and now we don’t have to guess whose leggings are whose. Smart, right?
But seriously, she chose her own poses. The dress is the Li’l LDT by Love Notions. I made it in dress length with long sleeves. Easy peasy.
The capelet is a FREE pattern by Fleece Fun – The Red Riding Hood Cape. I omitted the hood, and added a casing for her ties to run through.
She’s pretty happy with her Jinx inspired costume.
Next up, our Harley Quinn inspired costume.
Here’s the thing. I wrote up these beautiful plans before cutting and sewing. I had everything planned out. And then I completely ignored my plans and now instead of having the legging the opposite color order of the top, they’re the same. Boo!
I’m fairly certain she still likes it anyway. The leggings are the same Jalie Clara leggings that I’ve used for all the other costumes. The only modifications are added length and I added a seam allowance to the front to split the colors.
The top is the Half Pipe by Ellie&Mac. No modifications required. Ooops. That’s a lie. I added a seam allowance to the neck binding so I could split the colors. And then I made the mistake of sewing the grey side of the fabric as the outside. Blah.
The mask is a retired design by Gracefully Geeky. Sorry!
Our fam jam is ready for Halloween. Well…. Batman Beyond still needs some wings. And I might remake the Harley Quinn leggings. Other than that, we’re ready to get our trick or treat on.
