Spring Into Color (Sewing by Ti – Blog Tours)

Welcome to another Sewing by Ti Blog Tour. SPRING INTO COLOR! This months’ theme is the Pantone Spring 2018 color chart.

I don’t believe in color trends. I think you should wear whatever color you like. Says the girl with the purple hair! So, while my makes for this blog tour might not fit with the trendy colors of the season, my boy doesn’t seem to mind.

My boy is going for surgery this spring. He’ll be staying overnight at the hospital, so I’ve been working on making him little items to make his hospital stay more comfortable. In my previous post I made up two modified versions of the Play Away pattern by Flosstyle. Something to keep him occupied during recovery.

For this blog post, I’m sharing a couple more makes for his hospital visit. These are more to keep him comfortable as opposed to occupied.

My friend, Robin, brought me this awesome dinosaur bone flanelette fabric. Jackson claimed it as his own and asked for a pillow made out of it. I had two different sized square pillow forms kicking around, so I whipped him up two envelope style cases for them. Obviously, he needed his name embroidered on one.

Who doesn’t love an envelope style pillow cover?

I followed Treasurie – My Childhood Treasure‘s tutorial on how to make a quick 10 minute envelope pillow cover. Quick. Simple. Easy. Actually 10 minutes. I think embroidering his name took longer than sewing the actual cover.

I also have some cute little Peekaboo Love Monsters ready to head to the children’s hospital with Jackson too. He’s named them both Spitfire. I think one might be Daddy Spitfire, but he mostly just uses the name for both of them.

These little Peekaboo Love Monsters are NOT a sewing pattern. They’re done completely on an embroidery machine. Well, except for hand stitching the hole that’s left for stuffing these little guys. The ITH design is by the amazing A Creative Medley. And guess what?!

Peekaboo means, they’re kind of envelope style too! BOOM! The little one was done on a 4×4 hoop, and the bigger one was made on a 6×10 hoop. If you make to sell, charge a million dollars for the 4×4 guy. They’re so cute but the turning is a bit of a pain.

Oooooh. My brain just processed that I have a big and a little pillow, and a big and a little Peekaboo Love Monster. PATTERNS! I love finding patterns. Don’t you?!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Leave me a comment. Hmmm, what kind of comment should you leave me today…. Let me know your favorite color from the Pantone Spring 2018 color chart OR let me know what else I should make for Jack’s hospital visit. Thanks again!

Need more inspiration?

Be sure to stop by the rest of the bloggers participating in this month’s tour!

OMG, the bones glow in the freaking dark! I had no idea!!!!!

About manningthemachine

I'm Laura. Mama to four, and wife to one awesome guy. I'm ever so slightly sarcastic. Just a little bit. I like to quote movies, but since our house is managed by little people, most of those quotes come from kiddie shows. At least my husband generally gets the references. It makes me feel less awkward. I took sewing lessons starting at the age of 8, through the Kids Can Sew program. I took lessons for four or five years. Then I became a snotty teen and decided sewing was lame. I've repented of my ways, and enjoy sewing for my little ones. And sometimes other people. And almost never for myself. Oh hey. My blog name. "Manning The Machine." I think it's probably only funny if you know me in real life. And even then, maybe it is only funny to me. My last name is Manning. This is a blog about my sewing. Manning The (Sewing) Machine. Do you get it? Do you? No. That's fine. I think it's funny even if you don't.

Wow! How cool! I love how thoughtful each item you made is. Hospital stays are not the funnest and these things will bring your little man so much comfort. I love that the dinosaur bones glow in the dark!

  2. Sunni says:

Aww! Sweet little guy. I hope those critters bring him comfort! Does he like blankets! My boys are obsessed, and I know they’d gave the most comfort from those.

  3. Auschick says:

Those stuffies are adorable! Glad he loves them!
